Who are we?
Creative Opportunities is a social enterprise that helps young Londoners develop skills through participation, training and mentoring to bring about the change that they want to see in the world.
We provide personalised support for young people in London to develop emotional intelligence, technical skills, and build networks for their future projects and work.
What is the Mentoring Programme?
The aim of this programme is to match young people with individuals who can support you with professional and personal development. This is an opportunity to widen your network and connect with your area of interest. You’ll get to know and receive support from someone with professional experience and work with them to set yourself personal goals which they will help you to achieve.
The programme will begin in March 2019 and will run for twelve months. In this time, we ask our Mentors and Mentees to meet for up to a couple of hours each month. This could be a meeting every 2-3 weeks for an hour, or 2 hours every four weeks.
Who are the Mentors?
All the Mentors are people known by or have been recommended to the Creative Opportunities team. They are successful professionals with experience in a range of industries, from the Creative Arts to Law to Engineering and everything in between. They are all people who want to share some of their networks, skills and experience with a young person and support them to find their way into a fulfilling professional life. All mentors are given training before the programme launches and each one is carefully considered and thoroughly checked by Creative Opportunities.
What does the programme entail?
As a Mentee, you would work with your Mentor in setting some goals over the course of the programme. You get to decide how you want your mentor to support you. This could entail anything from writing an application to researching some training or ways to develop new skills that will aid you in finding the right career path for you. In return, you will be expected to show up at times you have agreed on and to communicate with your Mentor and with Creative Opportunities.
We would suggest pairs meet up to 15 times over the course of the year. This will be up for you and your mentor to decide on a time and place that suits you. Creative Opportunities will reimburse you for food and travel on the presentation of any receipts.
What can you expect from us?
Once you’ve filled out the form below, we will give you a call to find out more about your interests. Then we will work to pair you with a Mentor who we feel is a good match, with similar interests and whose experience could be very useful for your own professional development.
We will introduce the pairs in person at our launch event in March (date tbc) at Mildmay Community Centre. This will be a chance for you guys to get to know each other, and put some dates in the diary. (If you can’t make this date, we’ll arrange to introduce you in person at another time.)
Our Employability Coordinator will support the Mentees and Mentors over the year with resources to structure the meetings, regular check ins, and will be available for support throughout the programme.
If this sounds like something you might be interested in, please fill out this form and we will be in touch to start finding you a Mentor!
