Who are we?
Creative Opportunities is a social enterprise that facilitates and encourages creativity amongst young Londoners, supporting them to develop skills, make connections and lead change.
Our mission is to teach young people transferable skills relevant to their interests and guide them to successfully navigate their chosen pathways, advocate for their own rights and challenge injustice. Our vision is for all young people to understand the power of their creativity and use it to create positive change in the world around them.
What is the Mentoring Programme?
We launched our latest mentoring programme in March 2019, matching thirty pairs of mentees and mentors who live, work or study in Islington. The mentors, all professionals working or with experience in the creative industries, provided support with professional and personal development.
Who are the Mentors?
All the mentors are people known by or have been recommended to the Creative Opportunities team. They are successful professionals with experience in a range of industries, from the creative arts to law to engineering and everything in between. They are people who want to share their networks, skills and experience with a young person and support them to find their way into a fulfilling professional life.
What does the programme entail?
Mentees work with Mentors to establish goals over the course of the programme and to decide what they would like to learn. This could be anything from writing a job application to networking skills, research, time-management or pitching project ideas.
Our Employability Coordinator supports the mentees and mentors throughout the programme with resources and regular check-ins. Creative Opportunities reimburses food and travel expenses to ensure that everyone can participate, regardless of financial circumstances.
