Who are we?
Creative Opportunities is a social enterprise that helps young Londoners develop skills through participation, training and mentoring to bring about change that they want to see in the world.
We provide personalised support for young people in London to develop emotional intelligence, technical skills, and build networks for their future projects and work.
What is the mentoring programme?
In this programme, we will match up Mentees with Mentors who have experience in particular fields and industries that are of interest to the Mentee.
The aim of this programme is to match young people with individuals who can support them with professional and personal development.
Who are the Mentors?
All the participating Mentors are people known or have been recommended to the Creative Opportunities team: they are successful professionals from a range of industries, from the Creative Arts to Law to Engineering and everything in between. They are individuals who want to share some of their networks, skills and experience with a young person. All Mentors are given training before the programme launch and will undergo enhanced DBS checks.
How can being a Mentor benefit you?
- It furthers your understanding of your own experience, whilst also making it available to a new person;
- You will gain personal satisfaction through supporting the development of others;
- It is an opportunity to reflect on your own career and practice;
- It will enhance your own job satisfaction and provide perspective on your career so far;
- It will allow you to develop professional relationships and possible collaborations.
What would this entail?
As a Mentor, you would work with your Mentee in setting some goals over the programme period. This could be anything from writing an application to researching some training or skilling up on a piece of software - you decide these at the initial meeting with your Mentee.
The programme will run from March for twelve months. In this time we ask Mentors and Mentees to meet for a couple of hours every month. This could be a meeting every 2-3 weeks for an hour, or 2 hours every four weeks. This will be up for you and your mentee to decide where and when. Creative Opportunities will reimburse you towards travel and refreshments on presentation of receipts.
What can you expect of us?
Once you’ve filled out the form (link below), we will give you a call to get a bit more info about you. Then we will pair you with a Mentee who we feel is a match in interest and who could benefit from your professional experience.
We will introduce pairs in person together at our launch event in March (date tbc) at Mildmay Community Centre. This is the chance for you guys to get to know each other, and put some dates in the diary. (If you can’t make this date, we’ll arrange to introduce you in person at another time.)
Our Employability Coordinator will support you over the year with some resources to structure the meetings, regular check ins, and will be available for support throughout the programme.
